About the Film: In December 2015, in response to harsh political rhetoric against Muslims in the US, political science professor Larycia Hawkins donned a hijab as an act of embodied solidarity with Muslim women. “…As Pope Francis stated last week, we worship the same god,” she wrote on her Facebook post. Within days, Wheaton College (IL)—commonly referred to as the “Harvard of evangelical colleges”—placed her on administrative leave, and began proceedings to fire her. The resulting firestorm exposed the rapidly growing polarization among evangelicals as issues of race, gender, academic freedom, religious liberty and Islamophobia were hotly debated.
